He's just one of us

The man who wants us to believe that he is "just one of us" is selling one of his "7 or 8...I can't remember" houses. This one has 13 bedrooms and is 15,000 square feet.

Seriously, HOW can anyone believe that this man will NOT pander to the wealthiest 2% in the nation?? And that's NOT you or me, baby.

Okay, as you know I'm massively a-political. But this occurs to me:

How come people are angry, not impressed by a man's ability to become really wealthy and successful? Doesn't this say something good about him, that he's hard-working and effective?

I never understood why his wealth is a bad thing.

Is Obama poor?

Imez, I don't hold McCain's wealth againt him. I just don't believe that he is going to have OUR (the little aka poor people) interests at heart. What has he ever done to help lift people up, people who need a hand? Obama's entire career has been about helping people: giving them the resources to get an education, to feed their families, to provide for themselves. Obama is not poor, but that's because both he and his wife overcame the odds and attended Harvard law. McCain's wealth wasn't earned, by the way, unless you consider that he earned it by marring Cindy ("The c*nt" AS HE CALLED HER) McCain. He's just not the guy I want running this county.

But... but... based on the original text of your post, you DO hold his wealth against him. You just said that he will pander to the wealthy because he has large houses.

Perhaps you meant that you think wealth *itself* is not a bad thing... just not a good thing for our leaders to have? Do you think wealth corrupts all it touches? And if you do, do you feel none of us should work toward it? And if not, what should we work toward? My husband works 60 hours a week at his well paying job. Should his family not reap the primary benefits of that hard work?

And I ask this without snark... did he really call his wife a c*nt? Where did you hear/read this?

Robyn, I don't mean to say that I hold it against him; I wanted to avoid getting as long-winded as I can get...but what I mean is: He doesn't know what how it feels to struggle to put food on the table while paying off your student loans and trying to afford medical insurance for your family. To barely get by, to live paycheck to paycheck. So where is his motivation to help those people (ie US)?? He doesn't know people like us, except that they clean his house(s).

And the other thing, from an Associated Press article:
"Three reporters from Arizona, on the condition of anonymity, also let me in on another incident involving McCain's intemperateness. In his 1992 Senate bid, McCain was joined on the campaign trail by his wife, Cindy, as well as campaign aide Doug Cole and consultant Wes Gullett. At one point, Cindy playfully twirled McCain's hair and said, "You're getting a little thin up there." McCain's face reddened, and he responded, "At least I don't plaster on the makeup like a trollop, you cunt." McCain's excuse was that it had been a long day.

To be fair, and to remind everyone that we are choosing between two politicians (i.e., a giant douche and a turd sandwich -- see South Park), Obama isn't exactly poor either.

NPR had a really interesting piece about how we hear what we want to hear. I think it's important for us and our future that we be leery of ALL politicians and their promises. Guess I'm just feeling ultra-realistic today. meh...

Hi Hedder,
It's true, Obama isn't poor. But as I said above he and his wife are both Harvard-educated attorneys.

Harvard-educated attorneys who both passed up HUGE salaries on Wall Street to stay in Chicago and work on the lower-east-side to lift up the less-fortunate people there.
