To my sisters: there's nothing to see here...move along

In only his fourth veto ever, George W. Bush just blocked legislation expanding a children's health insurance program that would provide health care to 10 million American children for the next five years.

"The president and Republicans in Congress say that we can't afford this bill, but where were the fiscal conservatives when the president demanded hundreds of billions of dollars for the war in Iraq?" asked Rep. Jan Schakowsky, D-Illinois.

That's right: $7 billion dollars a month to provide health care to AMERICA'S children vs. the $7 billion dollars a month we are currently spending on this war.

Hell, even 61% of Republicans support the children's health care bill.

It's such a shame he can't be elected to a third term.

hey. i warned you.

It's like the saying goes "If you aren't outraged, you aren't paying attention." And it's people who weren't paying attention who elected this dip-shit not once but TWICE. It's my job to make sure no one in my family makes that mistake again.

Kate's soap box
Just kiddin' sis. I'm glad you keep track of G-dub. Congress doesn't seem to...

Well, hell! That was a cute little box when I made it up in the comment section. But, I forgot, this program smushes everything.

That does it. I'm sending you my Snow White story. I tried not to , showing respect for your beliefs.

Ditto , Jodi 's comment !

And here's the rest of the story :

SCHIP, the proposed health program would have taken children off private health ins. and put them all on gov't ins, including those of families earning $83,000, federalizing health care. Bush indicated a willingness to spend MORE money on the program and Republican leaders urged Democrats to join then in fashioning a new bill that focused on the needs of LOW INCOME FAMILIES.

Sometimes bills are vetoed because they aren't good enough, are lacking the real necesseties.

As for the "rest of the story", of course that's the spin he's going to put on it. Bush doesn't have any problem "federalizing" everything else when it benefits him and his cronies! When so many of our country's citizens have to sneak into Canada to get health care, there's something wrong with our system. Right now the ONLY ones it's working for is the INSURANCE COMPANIES.
