sometimes, it's hard to be a woman

So by now the world knows that Elliot Spitzer, governor of New York, has been caught with his hand in the cookie jar, so to speak. The man who rose to the top of NYC politics by vowing to eradicate crime (specifically prostitution!) in the Big Apple.

Now, politics aside, my question is: WHY IN THE SAM HELL IS HIS WIFE STANDING BY HER MAN?? Why do these wives of politicians gone astray, from Hillary Clinton to Larry Craig's wife to Mrs. Spitzer, WHY do they stand there on the stage, in their proper little suits and pearls, hands folded, looking concerned for the trouble her poor husband has gone and gotten himself into now? While he announces to the world something so deeply personal and painful, so unforgivable...something that she probably just found out about herself mere hours prior. And only then because he knew he'd been caught.

Me? I'd say "Um, no, I'm afraid I won't be able to make that press conference. I'll be busy signing DIVORCE PAPERS and watching your ass squirm up there all by yourself. Or, wait! I know! Why don't you HIRE a woman to stand next to you and PRETEND to by your wife??"

I think he could have paid Kristen to stand there with him. He is the world's greatest hypocrite ! Mrs. McGreevy divorced her husband, but he was gay, so that made it a no brainer---and she has remarried. Atta girl !
I agree with you completely !!!!!

It happens because MOST of these little wifeys have never held a job in their lives, and/or they realize that by divorcing his sorry ass, she MAY be required to get a job and actually work, because rich powerful men have rich powerful lawyers.

As to why Hilary stayed, I still don't know...

Thank Gob you didn't marry Brett, or you'd be a "stepford wife" just like the rest of them!!!!

Actually, I just finished reading an article saying that she, too, is an Ivy-league educated attorney who, before they had children, earned more than he did. Way more. So that's not it.

Besides, even if she'd never worked a day in her life, she would have plenty of "evidence" to divorce his ass and sue him for everything he has. These women don't have to stay, they choose to. What a lesson for their three teenage daughters: No matter what your husband does to humiliate you, you must honor your marriage. Nice. I hope she'll dump him as soon as it's out of the media.

And you're right about Bret; and that's exactly why I didn't marry him. Cuz I knew that's how it would end up. NO. THANK. YOU.

Well fine. I get here late and you've said it all.

Well said, Kate. I was just thinking the same thing today. Why would this obviously accomplished, intelligent woman stand there with him like that? The person most hurt by his actions is his wife (followed by his daughters). He completely betrayed her trust. I think it's a bad message to send to other women - "stand by your man even though he treats you like dirt". It makes me sick.

Thanks, Cami! And thanks for stoppin' by!

Also, I realized that I said he's the mayor of NYC; he was, of course, the GOVERNOR of New York state.

Just having this conversation with my husband, that it would be a cold day in h-ll before I would be standing there. I mean what is up women? No back-bone?
My husband said that all the men at the office are talking about this, would it have been better for him to have a mistress? Going out and paying for it is one thing - low, low, low - and now the gal is outed herself because she did not want to come on like a monster!
Now who is the monster here?
